PODS GALLERY
“I love to combine those textures
of natural erosion with the marks of my
chainsaw, rasp or chisel, and when this
hard, close-grained wood is polished, there
before me is the full range of its possible
textures. When I add to this a polished
‘pip’ of golden yellowwood,
red ivory wood, or aromatic cedar, there
is a symbol of new life, promise and growth.” |

FRUIT AND SEED FORMS
GALLERY
“In a friend’s garden I had
seen a pomegranate tree with its windfalls
of open, ripe fruit lying on the ground,
and my mind saw a correlation between those
burst fruits and the texture of the eroded
hollow tree trunks, so I put a polished
faceted form of red wood inside my stinkwood,
and made my first “Fruit Form”:
Pomegranate.” |

RENEWALS GALLERY
“Renewals - are symbols of hope.
The outer, old form is eroded and cracking
open, being pushed aside , as it were, by
the growth of the inner sphere, which is
to me the symbol of perfection, The meaning
could be personal, spiritual, social or
political.” |

HUMAN FIGURES GALLERY
“I taught sculpture
in Cape Town for 20 years, the basis of
my teaching being the nude form, a traditional
method. I am interested in the expression
of emotion in the figure as a whole, and
we have in the gallery some small bronze
sketches illustrating this.” |

PUBLIC WORKS AND
COMMISSIONS GALLERY
“I truly enjoy creating something
evocative and appropriate for public places.
My crucifixions and mythological figures
have been a source of much pleasure to me.” |

MISCELLANEOUS
“Stepping away
from traditional carving and sculpture
is always a challenge, but through challenge
comes growth and understanding”
